Together, we will create a piece that honors the beauty found in mending and the strength found in rest.
In this hands-on workshop, we dive deep into the technical artistry of emotional portraiture:
✴ The Press & Peel Technique:
Master the use of an Appliqué Pressing Sheet to eliminate the guesswork.
Judie will show you how to build your portrait directly over the drawing, then peel and fuse it to your background as one perfectly positioned unit.
✴ The Numbered Map: Every participant receives our custom "Pause of Exhaustion" mapping sheet.
(You'll get a chance to to learn how to make yours).
This numbered guide takes the guesswork out of your composition, allowing you to audit your fabric values and place every shadow and highlight with total confidence before you make your first cut.

Do I need to be an expert portrait quilter to join?
Not at all! This workshop is designed to take the mystery out of portraiture. Whether you’ve never sewn a face before or you’re looking to refine your technique, Judie’s process for organizing composition will guide you through every step.

What if I can't join the live sessions at 3 PM EST?
We understand that life happens. If you cannot join us live, don't worry—your registration includes lifetime access to the full session recording. You will be able to follow along with Judie Pokakaa at your own pace, with the ability to pause and rewind as you build your portrait.
What supplies will I need?
Upon registration, you will receive our Supplies and Fabrics Requirement PDF. This includes a detailed list of tools and the fabric requirements for the portrait. Generally, you will need your standard sewing setup (machine, iron, rotary cutter, mat) plus specific materials for mapping the portrait.
Is the pattern included in the registration?
Yes! Your registration includes the digital pattern and the instructions for this portrait project. These resources are designed to help you organize your composition and prep your fabric pieces so you can follow along with Judie’s process for a seamless project.
What is the refund policy for the workshop and fabric kit?
Due to the digital nature of the proprietary mapping sheets and the pre-committed scheduling of our guest artist, all sales for "The Pause of Exhaustion" workshop and fabric kits are final. We are committed to helping you build your 2026 5-Piece Portfolio, and we pour significant resources into preparing these intensives for the Tribe. Once registration is confirmed, your seat is reserved, and your digital resources are delivered.
Can I return the Fabric Kit if I change my mind?
Because our "Duality" kits are custom-cut and curated specifically for this workshop’s tonal requirements, we do not accept returns or exchanges. We take great care to ensure each kit contains the exact high-quality African fabrics needed to achieve a professional-grade result for your portfolio.
When will I receive my digital mapping sheet?
To ensure everyone is working from the same finalized "blueprint," all digital mapping sheets will be delivered in the private workshop group, March 26, 2026. Please mark your calendar! This gives you ample time to review the values before we meet for the live session April 11.
